Egypt’s petroleum ministry has moved to establish a new crude and petroleum product storage and transport zone in the El-Tebbin area of Greater Cairo, Egypt.
In a meeting on 12 June 2022, ministers met to discuss plans for the first storage and heating terminal in the zone which will be developed by Egypt Petroleum Pipeline Company. The estimated cost of the new facility is EGP 1.8 billion (€91.3 million).
The facility will be the first on a 1,000 acre (400 ha) site, which is also expected to host companies such as Petrojet, Petrogas, Misr Gas, Al-Haditha Gas, and Al-Taawon Petroleum. The new zone will be used for the movement of petroleum products from and to Upper Egypt, and support the import and export of petroleum products. Egypt is already a well-established regional petroleum trading hub and over the past six years has worked to expand its reach through expansions and new projects.
The committee also discussed ongoing development and modernisation work in the oil region in Mostorod, where a regional committee headed by the Cairo Petroleum Refining Company plans to increase the current storage capacity of crude and petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, diesel and jet fuel. The new capacity will serve refineries and consumption areas in Greater Cairo.
