UK bulk liquid storage company UM Terminals has secured Halal and Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) accreditation for tanks at two storage facilities in Liverpool, UK.
The company worked to achieve Halal certification for its Regent Road site in response to requirements for a major existing customer for food storage.
‘We had to undertake a considerable amount of training and worked closely with the Halal Food Authority to ensure that we were able to meet strict criteria,’ says Jo Winning, UM Terminals’ quality planning and performance manager, adding: ‘It is a continual process of learning and auditing and, as with the case of the Halal certification, innovating where appropriate to meet new requirements of our customers.’
UM Terminals has completed the accreditation process of FSSC 22000 for its Regent Road and Gladstone Dock sites. This accreditation certifies the food safety management system of an organisation. The scheme uses international and independent standards such as ISO 22000 and ISO 9001, and technical food sector requirements.
