A lightning strike on a floating roof tank at the Don Bocas maritime terminal in Tabasco, Mexico, owned by Mexican state oil company Pemex, caused a major rim seal fire on 31 July 2021.
The fire broke out at around 9.30pm local time, according to Reuters, which cites an internal company memo, and was under control by around midnight. Videos posted on social media sites show large flames all around the tank roof perimeter.
According to the memo, there were no reported injuries or impacts to production at the refinery. Pemex has not commented publicly on the incident.
