Vitol Bunkers, part of Dutch energy and commodity trading company Vitol, has launched its new Green Bunker Fuels service for customers wanting to mitigate their CO2 emissions.
Under the scheme, Vitol Bunker customers will be able to offset emissions associated with a particular cargo through the use of verified emissions reductions (VERs). Vitol says that these will conform to the ‘highest international standards’, with emissions calculated using IMO and EU guidelines. Vitol will source the VERs from its existing portfolio, and customers will be offered a range of offset solutions to fit in with their existing broader emissions reductions programmes. Bespoke offsetting programmes will be available.
‘Vitol has built up a carbon portfolio over many years. We are delighted to deploy our expertise to offer vessel owners a bespoke means of mitigating emissions,’ says Michael Curran, Vitol’s head of emissions trading.
Vitol Bunkers began trading in May 2021, to offer ship and fleet owners worldwide access to high quality marine fuels, blended to meet required specifications.
