German tank storage logistics provider Oiltanking, part of the Marquard and Bahls Group, has signed a new partnership with rail operator Operail Finland for chemical transport.
Under the terms of the deal, Operail will transport in excess of 1 million tpa of chemicals along the Vainikkala – Kotka route to Oiltanking’s terminal facilities in Kotka, and will provide and other logistical services at the terminal.
Oiltanking Finland’s terminal in Kotka and its facilities in Hamina serve as important hub for chemical flows into Russia, with products entering by rail before being stored in heatable and insulated tanks prior to forwarding via truck or vessel.
‘Over the past months, both teams have worked intensely to ensure a smooth transition of rail transport services to our new partner Operail without any disruption of Oiltanking’s business with our customers,’ says Merja Porkka, terminal manager Mussalo, Oiltanking Finland.
Paul Lukka, chairman of Operail Finland and a member of the management board of its Estonian parent company Operail Group, says that the partnership is a significant milestone in Operail’s Finnish activities, which begun only in November 2020.
