A fire which broke out at Kharg Petrochemical Company on Kharg Island during maintenance work at its LPG unit has injured two workers and resulted in the death of another.
Iran’s Financial Tribune reports that the fire broke out when storage tanks at the LPG unit, which was taken out of service on 19 November for an overhaul, were being unloaded. It says that the fire, which began at 4.50pm local time on 20 November 2020, burned for two hours before being extinguished by firefighters. However, in a statement, Kharg Petrochemical says that the fire was completely contained by 5.05pm.
AP reports that according to Iranian state television news, one worker died after jumping from a platform when the fire broke out. Kharg Petrochemical did not confirm the cause of death, but says that one of the deceased man’s colleagues suffered moderate burns and was taken off Kharg Island for treatment, while two other workers received less serious burns.
