US government services group Crowley Solutions is to build a 500,000 bbl bulk fuel storage facility at Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Wainwright, in Fairbanks, Alaska, US.
The Defense Logistics Agency Energy awarded the contract for the facility, which will be contractor owned and operated, for four years initially, with an additional five-year option. The facility will include storage tanks and dedicated product pipelines, which will link into the government-owned fuel pipeline that already supplies the Eielson base. Crowley will also build a tank truck loading facility, a rail car loading facility and on-site product additive infrastructure.
Crowley has already begun engineering, permitting and site surveys, and expects to break ground in August 2020. The facility should be largely completed by January 2022.
The Fairbanks site will be the second government facility for Crowley in Alaska, having bought a facility in Anchorage in 2011, which it later expanded with almost 500,000 bbl of storage, tank truck loading facilities and additive storage and injection infrastructure. The company currently supplies more than 1 million bbl of storage for the Defense Logistics Agency Energy.
‘Crowley is proud to continue and expand our support of DLA Energy and the men and women in uniform that serve our nation both at home and abroad. Crowley’s fuel storage, supply and distribution capabilities enable DLA Energy to receive valuable energy services and ensure a robust government supply chain,’ says Sean Thomas, vice president, Crowley Solutions.
