An explosion that lit up the night sky in the Parchin area of Tehran in Iran on 26 June was caused by a leak from an industrial gas tank, according to reports.
The blast occurred at around 00:30 local time, according to the Mehrs News Agency. No casualties have been reported as a result of the tank explosion, which occurred at an industrial storage facility in a non-residential area. The blast was first feared to be related to a nearby military site. However, this was refuted by Iran’s defence ministry.
Head of the Defense Ministry’s Public Relations Office, Second Brigadier General Davud Abdi said in a media statement that there were no problems at the military site, and that the fire at the exploded industrial tank had been contained quickly by local firefighting units.
The incident is now under investigation by various official agencies.
