The floating roof of a storage tank as US refiner Valero Energy’s Corpus Christi Bill Greehy East Refinery has partially sunk into the liquids inside, according to reports.
The Dow Jones newswire says that Valero Energy made a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on 3 June 2020 reporting the incident, and confirming that the contents of the tank have been transferred to another.
Valero has not revealed what the tank contained or how large it is, but said that it expected to resolve the situation by the afternoon of 4 June 2020.
The incident was the second at the refinery that day, according to the Houston Chronicle. Earlier a recovery well transfer line leaked onto nearby soil, although the leak was small and stopped quickly by staff. A vacuum truck removed the contaminated soil for disposal.
Valero did not respond to Tank Storage Magazine’s request for information.
