The development of a LNG supply and gas terminal in Jamaica is on schedule to be completed by mid-2018.
A supply agreement has been finalised between the Jamaica Public Service and New Fortress Energy, which was selected as the development of the $206 million project.
According to the government’s information service, an environmental permit for the terminal has been submitted to the National Environment and Planning Agency and engineering works have started.
New Fortress Energy were selected in November 2015 to install facilities to receive store and re-gasify the fuel for use at the Jamaica Public Service’s 190 megawatt power plant in Old Harbour.
The project will help the government to shift the electricity sector from an oil-dominated to LNG-fuelled system within the new two to three years.
