Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) has formed a joint venture with Greenergy to establish a regional petroleum blending hub.
Bahrain Gasoline Blending (BGB) will combine the expertise of both companies to meet the country’s domestic demand for petroleum blend components as well as create opportunities to import and export. It will also contribute significantly to the country’s economy.
BGB will start blending in Bapco’s 260,000 barrels per day capacity refinery in Bahrain using petroleum blend components produced by the refining operations and purchased from third parties.
Finished-grade petroleum will be sold to Bapco and to customers in the regional and further afield. Additionally, the joint venture plans to develop new dedicated blending facilities in Bahrain in order to process a wider variety of petroleum components.
Greenergy chief executive Andrew Owns says that Bapco’s facilities are strategically located on a trading channel in and out of the Arabian Gulf and form an ideal base for a new petroleum operation.
