The construction of Abu Dhabi’s first land-based LNG import terminal for the United Arab Emirates has been delayed.
According to Bloomberg Emirates LNG is considering other options for a planned onshore facility within the port of Fujairah which would include storing gas at the site.
Emirates LNG plans to build a facility that is capable of importing nine million tonnes of gas a year and it was due for completion in 2018.
According to two anonymous sources quoted by Bloomberg the plant will be used to store or resell LNG cargos which would allow Abu Dhabi to make use of any excess capacity.
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company will boost the emirate’s gas purchases by hiring a floating storage and regasification unit, which will import LNG later this year.
