ExxonMobil has dedicated a portion of a $1 billion investment into expanding its tank storage facility in the Botlek.
The company is expanding its facility by six new tanks, thus increased storage capacity by 140,000 m3. In addition, the company is also modernizing its refinery in the Botlek in Rotterdam by constructing a new hydrocracker and modifying the exisiting hydrocracker.
The expansions are scheduled to be operational by 2018.
Allard Castelein, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority says: ‘ExxonMobil’s investment clearly demonstrates this leading company’s confidence in Rotterdam. While elsewhere in Europe refineries are being shut down, here, companies are heavily investing in modernization. As a result, we remain competitive as a port in the refining and petrochemical industry.’
