The explosions were heard at 3am on Tuesday, July 14 at the LyonDellBasell chemical refinery facility in Berre l’Etang.
More than 100 firefighters attended the scene and special measures have been put in place to prevent possible hydrocarbon pollution.
According to Reuters, a source close to the French government believe that the explosions were not as a result of a technical fault and criminal intent is suspected.
