Vopak EOS, a joint venture between Royal Vopak and Global Ports Investments, has reportedly initiated environmental impact assessment procedures at Estonia’s port of Muuga in anticipation of building a new LNG terminal there.
The facility would have 20-30,000m3 of storage capacity and could be operational by 2017.
Alexela Energia was initially attached to a similar project at the port, though it has been reported that Vopak’s terminal would cost under €50 million to build, less than Alexela Energia’s estimated cost.
The terminal would be used to supply LNG to vessels operating on the Baltic Sea and also store the country’s security gas reserve.
