Ningbo Shihua Crude Oil Terminal Company has officially opened its storage terminal in Daxie, Ningbo, Zhejiang province, China.
With a storage capacity of 450,000 tonnes, the new facility is Asia’s largest crude oil storage terminal.
It is 490m long and can handle 17 million tonnes of throughput a year. The terminal also features a newly constructed berth that can facilitate crude oil tankers ranging from 20,000 to 450,000 tonnes of product.
There are now 17 berths in the Daxie marine area, which handle more than 70 million tonnes throughput capacity.
The terminal began operating on a trial basis in October last year, after the National Development and Reform Commission approved Ningbo Shihua’s proposal in September 2010.
During this trial period, 16 oil cargo tankers transporting over 3.36 tonnes of oil in total anchored at the berth.
