Westway Terminals is to expand the capacity it rents at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge by 6.5 acres after the port approved a lease agreement earlier this month.
An additional six to 15 storage tanks will be built at the site under the new agreement.
It is not yet known what the new tanks will store; Westway will decide what commodity is in most demand nearer the time, but has already discussed the possibility of storing methanol and liquid fertiliser there.
Westway is to report back to the port’s board of commissioners as its plans develop.
The Port of Greater Baton Rouge is able to terminate the agreement if Westway has not expanded after two years.
