Vopak is to expand its storage capacity even further with an extra 570,000 m³ to be built in its Amsterdam, the Netherlands, terminal in the Westpoort industrial zone.
Currently the site is in phase one of its expansion, where 620,000m³ extra capacity will be added to the facility. Thanks to the second phase recently announced, the terminal will now have the storage capacity of about 1.2 million m³ by completion, which is expected to happen between 2011 and 2012.
Construction on the terminal started in 2009 and will help the area to meet its demand for more storage capacity in the Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp region.
Already, much of the storage has been leased on a long-term basis and petrol will be distributed by tanker from the terminal to areas such as the US and Europe.
The terminal will also be used to blend diesel fuel and petrol in order to prepare them for specific markets.
The terminal will have two marine jetties handling ocean-going vessels of up to 120,000 DWT and eight berths for coasters and barges of up to 20,000 DWT.
