An oil leak at Colombo port in Sri Lanka was successfully contained on 14 November.
The leak occurred at a pipeline that channelled furnace oil from a ship to the storage complex in Bloemandal area in Colombo, acting director of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Sampath Kalutharage comments.
It is estimated that around five or six barrels of furnace oil leaked into sea water. The reason for the leak has been identified as a technical fault.
Sri Lanka Ports Authority says that chemical treatments will be used to prevent ill effects of the leak.
Environmental and economic impact of the leak is yet to be reported.
