China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has suffered its second disaster in three months as it battled a fire at its oil storage depot at Dalian's Xingang Harbour on 24 October.
Three months earlier a pipeline blast caused the 16 July oil spill in the same depot.
On 24 October workers from the Liaohe oil field construction group of CNPC accidentally ignited oil residue in one of the oil tanks. By 19:00p.m. over 100 fire trucks were dispatched and over 60 dump trucks filled with sand were standing by to prevent the fire from spreading to over 200 tanks in the vicinity.
Nearby residents were also evacuated. The fire was put out on 25 October, and there were no casualties.
