Fuel station operator Caltex Australia has contracted Transfield Services to expand its fuel terminal at Port Hedland in north-west Western Australia.
Construction of two 20 million litre diesel tanks and a road tanker loading facility is expected to begin in September, with the terminal due to commence operations in late 2011.
We currently have a small presence in supplying diesel to the north west of Australia, however meeting the needs of existing and potential new customers will require additional storage capacity to ensure reliable supply, Caltex national manager of distribution Mike Raleigh comments.
Caltex Australia is 50% owned by Chevron, and 50% by Australian shareholders. Caltex operates the largest oil company retail network in Australia with an estimated retail market share of more than 30%.
