Canadian energy major Enbridge is embarking on a CA$400 million (311.8 million) expansion project on its Waupisoo pipeline system.
This will entail a growth of 255,000 barrels a day to accommodate 229,000 daily barrels in new shipper commitments to cater for increased crude production in the region.
The current capacity of Waupisoo, which runs 380 kilometres from a terminal just south of Fort McMurray to a hub in Edmonton, is 350,000 barrels a day.
Based on development activity underway within the oilsands on both existing and new projects we expect to see continued attractive investment opportunities of this sort for some time to come, Enbridge CEO Pat Daniel comments.
The expansion will take place in two stages and will be completed in three years.
