Lightning struck a large petrol tank on 13 June in Greensboro, North Carolina, causing a blaze which closed sections of two interstate highways in both directions for several hours.
The tanks owner Colonial Pipeline says the burning petrol was extinguished by firefighters using special foam, but crews were still on scene to put out any flare-ups.
The 43,000 barrel tank was about half full when it ignited. Officials put water on two nearby tanks as a precaution.
