Canadian energy major Enbridges plans for a CA$5.5 billion (4.31 billion) 1,172-km twin pipeline system, tank terminal and marine shipping terminal are now one step closer.
The company has filed its environmental application for the Northern Gateway oil pipeline, which will run between Edmonton and the British Columbia coastal town of Kitimat. The tank terminal and marine shipping terminal will provide support of crude oil shipments from the Alberta oil sands.
One of the pipes would carry 525,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Edmonton to tankers at Kitimat while the other would carry 193,000 barrels of condensate per day from Kitimat to Edmonton for use in processing oil sands crude.
