On 9 May a 5,000m3 naphtha storage tank blew up at Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemicals Pudong refinery in China.
The ensuing fire took three hours to douse. There were no reports of injuries.
The 230,000 barrel a day refinery is one of China's largest, owned by Sinopec, China's largest oil refining corporation. In June 2004 a 2,000m2 workshop at the Shanghai refinery was engulfed by a huge fire.
