A multi million pound deal has been signed by fuel giant BP to create a fuel distribution centre in Canvey, Essex, UK.
The Oikos Storage oil terminal will help supply fuel to wholesale customers and petrol stations in the Midlands and southeast England.
Canvey residents have begun to raise their concerns about large quantities of fuel being stored on site.
BP spokesman, Mark Salt, said: BP and the owners of Oikos Storage have ensured that health, safety, security and environmental protection are a priority in the agreement.
According to Salt the new facility would be one of a few in the country to comply with the recommendations of the Buncefield Standards Task Group in safety and environmental standards for fuel storage sites.
Work on the centre will be expected to start in the near future and to be completed in the next three years.
