It is not all bad news for energy companies in the financial downturn.
The UKs National Grid has experienced first half operating profits from its Isle of Grain LNG terminal up five-fold.
Thanks to the completion of its second phase expansion completed 11 months ago, revenue rose to £20 million (22.16 million).
Phase three expansion, which will add a further LNG tank and a second unloading jetty, will be completed in late 2010.
This stage will lift the terminal's total annual capacity to around 15 million tonnes, equivalent to approximately 20% of the country's gas demand.
