Hyperion Energy has announced that its planned $10 billion (6.8 billion) oil refinery near Elk Point, Canada, will be one of the first refineries in North America to use thermal oxidisers on its oil storage tanks.
These additional emissions controls will cost the company an additional $50 million. The control devices burn of vapours that form in the tanks. Instead of allowing these vapours into the air, pipes carry them to the oxidisers where they are transformed into carbon dioxide and waste.
To find out more about the industry in Canada attend Tank Storage Canada expo & conference from 28-29 October in Montreal. For more information visit: www.tankstorageevents.com/tscanada
