On 14 August Alaskas Valdez Marine Terminal loaded its 20,000th oil tanker, The Polar Resolution, since the opening of the trans-Alaska pipeline.
In 1977 the first tanker Arco M/V Juneau left the terminal. The 1,000th tanker left Valdez in 1979, and the 2,000 milestone was passed in 1980.
More than 15 billion barrels of crude have passed through the pipeline.
The terminal is home to 18 storage tanks with a capacity of more than 500,000 barrels per tank, equating to 9.18 million barrels of total storage.
It has one floating-berth and three fixed-berths.
