A fire broke out at an underground oil storage tank in Blejoi, Prahova County, Romania, Tuesday 20 May, and spread to a storage platform for oil residues, before being put out by fire-fighters.
The fire destroyed the underground storage tank and the platform. According to the head of the Prahova Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, Colonel Marian Burloi, a total of 50 fire-fighters intervened and managed to put out the fire about half an hour after it had broken out.
No one was injured in the fire but the extent of material damage was significant, as the fire also destroyed a nearby 35 tonne tank. The cause of the fire has not yet been established and an inquiry has begun.
