LBC Antwerpen NV (a subsidiary of LBC Tank terminal group) and ERTISA Netherlands BV (a subsidiary of the Spanish oil and energy group CEPSA) are to build and operate a tank storage terminal in the port of Antwerp.
The project will be undertaken by a new joint venture company called LBC-ERTISA Tank Terminal Antwerpen NV. The first phase is expected to be completed in early 2007, and will include 10,000 cu m of tank storage capacity as well as handling facilities for ERTISA products. A second phase will provide additional storage capacity for other LBC customers, plus facilities for the handling of rail tank cars, road tank trucks and tank containers. Blending and drumming facilities will be added to the infrastructure in line with market demand.
The terminal will be located at the site of Bayer Antwerpen Comm.V. on the right bank of the river "Schelde" in the heart of Antwerp's petrochemical cluster and will have deepwater access (draft 12m).
Meanwhile, LBC announced earlier that it has opened a new logistical zone at its Antwerp terminal, designed to smooth loading and unloading at the terminal and reduce overall handling times. The zone includes an automated weighing area, parking for trucks and containers, a planning system for access to the terminal loading facilities plus administrative and customs handling . The company is also aiming to introduce an internet-based slot reservation system for trucks before the end of the year, which will further reduce waiting times.
