An explosion and fire at Valero's Quebec refinery on 14 June was the third blaze to hit the company's facilities in 30 days.
According to news reports, the recent fire at the Quebec refinery – owned by Valero through its subsidiary, Ultramar Inc – was quickly contained and caused no injuries or plant disruption. The affected unit was closed for maintenance at the time of the explosion.
Two earlier fires at Valero facilities were also injury free and caused no major disruption. On 31 May, a blaze occurred at Valero's Corpus Christi refinery after lightning hit a storage tank. Also in May, a fire broke out at the company's 250,000 barrel-per-day St Charles refinery
