LPG automated in every Wytch way
When BP planned to build a new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal at its environmentally sensitive Wytch Farm facility, management knew it was going to need a low maintenance, cost-effective, and highly efficient automation system.
Wytch Farm is the largest onshore oilfield in Western Europe, but it is nestled on the small and delicate Goathorn peninsula in Southern England. This scenic area is extensively used for tourism and leisure but also contains national nature reserves and many areas of special scientific interest. BP knew it had to reduce any negative environmental impact at the site due to strict regulations.
Because it is a populardestination tourist area, the oil major planted thousands of trees to shield the site from the public.
Over the last decade, BP has upgraded automation systems at most of its European depots, and when it was time to automate Wytch Farm, BP management already knew which automation system to install. As at twenty of its other European depots, BP chose FUEL-FACS+ by Control Systems International to automate and control the many facets of Wytch Farm.
